Three quick questions with Johan Palm

EXHIBITOR | Energy use in buildings is increasingly in focus, not least as new regulations and rising energy costs make it more important than ever to understand how energy is actually used. But where should you start, and what really makes the biggest difference in practice? We asked three quick questions to Johan Palm, Regional Sales Manager Nordics at Elvaco. The company is one of the exhibitors at Clima Energy Nordic and works with solutions for metering and collecting energy data in buildings.

Energy data is becoming increasingly important in buildings. What do you see that property owners need to gain better control over right now?

– Energy data is the key to understanding how a building is actually used. What we see is that many property owners still lack sufficiently detailed metering. To work effectively with energy, you need to be able to monitor heating, cooling, electricity and water at a more detailed level, preferably per building, system or tenant. When the data becomes more accessible and structured, it is also easier to detect deviations more quickly and make better decisions about operations and investments.

Many people talk about energy efficiency – but what do you see as the most common energy thief in buildings today?

– One of the most common energy thieves is actually the lack of insight. When energy use is not measured or followed up in detail, it becomes difficult to detect inefficient operation, incorrect settings or systems working against each other. Often it is not about major technical problems but about small things – for example heating and ventilation that are not optimized according to actual usage. With better metering and follow-up, many of these energy losses can be identified and addressed relatively easily.

What do you hope visitors will discover when they meet you at Clima Energy Nordic?

– We hope visitors will gain a clearer understanding of how energy data can be used in practice, not only for reporting but to create real value in building operations. For us, it is very much about making metering data accessible, reliable and easy to integrate into different systems with the help of our products or our open platform, Elvaco Play.
